It is soft, warm and restorative. There is mystery in the prayer shawl." A prayer shawl recipient The Prayer Shawl Ministry offers participants an opportunity to serve others by knitting a prayer shawl or lap robe. We seek through handwork to bring comfort and healing. Parishioners are encouraged to identify anyone who could benefit from the gift of a prayer shawl. More than twenty-five handworkers are participating in the ministry and members of the parish have distributed more than sixty prayer shawls since April. Periodically the shawls are blessed during a Sunday service. We meet for knitting and conversation in the parish hall lounge on the second Saturday of the month (excluding August and December). Please check the bulletin for the date of our next meeting. Attendees range from eight to eighty years old, and in skill from beginners to life long knitters. The shawls are stored in a trunk in the parish hall lounge. Since there are many knitters who knit at home, the trunk is left open on Sundays during the 10:00 service to receive or sign out shawls. During coffee hour on the first Sunday of the month, the prayer shawl ministry has a display table and a variety of shawls are displayed and available.
