Pastoral Notes
The parish gives thanks for the life and ministry of parishioner Lucy Hale, who attended St. Paul's for more than 75 years, having become a member in 1941. Lucy died on March 25; a funeral will be held for her on Saturday, April 8, at 10 a.m. at St. Paul's. Please remember Lucy, her daughter Pryor and granddaughter Lucy, and her other friends and loved ones in your prayers.
We also give thanks for the life and ministry of Mary Struble, who died on March 20. A funeral will be held for Mary on Saturday, April 1, at 2 p.m. at St. Paul's.
Lenten Supper Series
Join us tonight at 5:30 p.m. for an Evening Prayer service with a homily by Jack Thorman. The service will be followed at 6 p.m. by a simple soup and salad supper (with something more kid-friendly for the younger set). The evening will continue with an all-ages program as we explore our journey through Lent. Bring your family and/or friends!
Welcoming Events for Will
We have scheduled a variety of welcoming events over the next few months to provide opportunities for parishioners to meet and welcome Will. Signup sheets for these events will be available in the parish hall after all three services this Sunday. You may also add your name to one of the event lists by contacting the church office at or 434-295-2156.
Prayer Shawl Ministry
The Prayer Shawl Ministry will meet for knitting and conversation on Saturday, April 1 from 10 a.m. - noon. Come and join us. We'd love to show you our shawls and even teach you to knit. We knit these shawls with the intention of bringing comfort and healing. They are available to take or send to a loved one or to have for your own comfort.
Keeping a Holy Lent: Spiritual Practices
On Sunday, April 2, we will be offering the next session in our Lenten series on spiritual practices. Fasting has long been a Christian spiritual practice. More recently coupled with fasting is the attention to food justice in the life of faith. Kate Lichti, our Canterbury Fellowship coordinator and farmhand at a local Community Supported Agriculture farm, Bellair Farm, will lead us in a short mindful eating meditation and facilitate a conversation about eating and fasting as spiritual practices. Please join us in the lounge after the 10 a.m. service.
Generation Wise
Generation Wise, a St. Paul's group which builds community among our older members, will meet Tuesday, April 4, from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the church lounge. Continuing our discussion of Joan Chittister’s The Gift of Years: Growing Older Gracefully, we will take up the remaining chapters, to the end of the book. Taizé chant again serves as our opening and closing, thanks to David Slezak. New participants are welcomed. Easter Lilies
Consider purchasing an Easter lily to remember or honor a loved one or friend. The lilies will be used to decorate St. Paul’s and to add to the beauty of our worship during this joyous season. A $30 contribution is suggested. To order a lily, please contact the church office no later than Monday, April 10: or 434-295-2156.
An Invitation from the Flower Guild
The Flower Guild invites the congregation to join in the joy of adorning the church in blossoms for Easter. Please help us to create the window baskets on Saturday, April 15, after the 9 a.m. Holy Saturday service. No experience needed, all are welcome. It is great fun! Additionally, please bring any lovely flowering blossoms, branches, or greenery that you may have in your garden to the church by Saturday morning at 9 a.m. to be used for Easter.
Stephen Ministry
It’s your ministry. Please don’t think the Stephen Ministry is just for other people. It’s an important way we at St. Paul’s care for one another. If you are going through a difficult time, consider having a Stephen Minister. If you know someone else who is facing difficulties, suggest that he or she request Stephen Ministry. Make use of this caring resource. The Stephen Ministry belongs to you. If you or someone you know might benefit from this ministry, please contact the office at 434-295-2156.
