Iris began volunteering in the St. Paul’s nursery and Church School when her family began attending St. Paul’s in 1983 after retiring from life as a circus performer and teacher to the children of fellow performing families. Over the years, as her three children grew, she taught full-time every year, cycling through all grade levels. In 1986, together with a fellow parishioner, she instituted a yearly summer Vacation Bible School which she still continues to offer to this day.
In 1998 she joined the St. Paul’s staff, partnering with her mentor Betsy Poist as Co-Director of the Church School. Upon Betsy’s retirement from her position, Iris assumed the full responsibility of the Church School directorship.
In 2012 Iris began a new role at St. Paul's directing the Hospitality ministry. She is responsible for the many facets of hospitality at St. Paul’s, from our Sunday evening meals for students to our Wednesday community night dinners. She is creating a Sunday ministry for greeting new people, particularly young families with children, and expanding the ministry she does visiting the elderly and the home-bound, and coordinating our hospital visitor program.
Iris is devoted to St. Paul’s and to its many outreach programs. Most importantly, she recognizes the call of our Lord Jesus Christ to love God and to love and serve our neighbors.
